The Lionfish (Pterois volitans) is a large tropical scorpionfish seen rarely in Sydney (more commonly associated in tropical warm waters around Thailand!). I have seen this fish just once just a few metres underwater and very close to shore. It belongs to the family of Scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae).
