Southern Pygmy Leatherjacket

(Brachaluteres jacksonianus)
The Southern Pygmy Leatherjacket (Brachaluteres jacksonianus) is common fish seen around Sydney. It is small and well disguised so often overlooked. But up close these fish have big eyes (like buttons), with circle markings. They can be yellow through to green. When mating the males can blow out their bellies and fan out their tales in a fantastic display to impress the female.
