Red Gurnard
(Chelidonichthys kumu)
(Chelidonichthys kumu)
The Red Gurnard (Chelidonichthys kumu) of the family Trigliadae (Gurnards) is rare to be seen whilst diving in Sydney. The pectoral fins can be spread like big beautiful wings that they display when trying to startle a predator. This family of fish are typically deep sea fish so to be able to see these fish on a recreational shore dive is what makes Sydney so special.
