Autumn in Sydney is during the months of March, April and May. The average temperature is 22 degrees Celsius and average water temperature range at a warm 23 degrees Celsius. With the extra rain and cyclones in the north of Queensland and out at sea there can be more swell during Spring, but diving is fantastic. Visibility underwater starts to improve to an average of 8 metres.
The Giant Cuttlefish are seen more regularly around April/May as they start to mate which makes this a really special time of year. The tropical fish of the north are still seen during Spring and towards the end of Autumn (May) the largest migration of whales on earth begins, bringing with it thousands of whales (predominantly humpback and southern right whales). Listening to a whale singing underwater whilst you dive is possibly one of the best experiences a person can ever receive. Even if you don't hear the whales, diving will unlikely disappoint you during the Autumn months.
