Giant Snake Eels
An unusual eel rarely seen in Sydney is the Giant Snake Eel (Ophisurus Serpens) from the family Ophichthidae (Eels). This species can grow up to an incredible 2.5m in length. I have only seen this type of eel once in Sydney and it was during the daytime whilst we were performing an ocean cleanup. It certainly came as a surprise to us and so I could only get a few photos of it before he disappeared beneath the sand. It was the highlight of our dive.
