The Order Perciformes includes the Family Pomacentridae (Damselfish). This is a very common group of fish that live in coral reef habitats. Most divers come face to face with a damselfish at some point and they can be recognised for jumping out of their territory and trying to intimidate the diver (not very convincingly mind you) to get out of its home. They can be very varied in colour but mostly ranging from white to yellow to grey to black, except for the juveniles which can be electric blue.
Damselfish are seen often in Sydney although some species are rarer than others. The species that can be seen are:
