Sea Snails are marine gastropods and some of these species that we see in Sydney can be really quite interesting. From the small to the large keep your eyes out for the following species:
- Cymbiola magnifica (Magnificant Volute)
- Nassarius glans (Acorn Dog Whelk)
and some other species yet to be identified but shown below.
There are thousands of sea snails but you have to have a keen eye to spot them as they are often buried in the sand.
The best one (in my opinion) that we see in Sydney is the Magnificant Volute - it is really large. And reminds me of an army tank. But careful not to get close - they can do some real damage.

A similar type of species, which is more closely related to nudibranchs, is sometimes confused to be a sea snail. Especially as its common name is bubble snail. If you would like more information on this species click on the link below (or picture) and you can learn more about this similar species.
