Hawkfish
(Family Cirrhitidae)
(Family Cirrhitidae)
The family Cirrhitidae is a small family of just 35 species around the world, known commonly as Hawkfish.
They are distinguishable by their unique spikey tips to their dorsal fins, which are a big reason the family of fish is called Cirrhitidae (because in Latin, cirrus means "fringe"). Whilst they are only the size of your hand with their striking appearance they stand out amongst other fish and are favourites in Sydney. |
