The Family Syngnathidae (Seahorses & Pipefish) has some of the most beautiful and unique fish that we see in Sydney. They are seen year round but only if you are good at spotting them. For creatures so colourful it is incredible how well camouflaged they are.
This is a large family of over 200 species and even though I am only listing 3 species in Sydney, I know there are many more types around. This family of seahorse / pipefish is unique in that the male carries the eggs in a pouch or on their tail. It is common to see them in pairs and studies show that they are monogamous.
