Pufferfishes, Porcupinefishes, Boxfishes and Triggerfishes are all in the order Tetraodontiformes. This web page focuses on the familes of Pufferfish (Family Tetraodontidae) and Porcupinefish (Family Diodontidae) which are well represented in Sydney and common on every dive.
The family of Pufferfish (Tetraodontiformes) are a fairly well known fish species which can inflate themselves (when threatened). Pufferfish are all poisonous (internal organs and/or skin toxins) so should not be touched.
There are quite a few species that we see regularly in Sydney (e.g. the Clown Toby and Common Toadfish) and others that are not so common (e.g. Saddled Puffer).
