The family Pataecidae (Prowfish) is a small family of just a few unusual species, including one of Sydney's best, the Red Indianfish (Pataecus Fronto).

They are thin fish with a high dorsal fin that merges with the caudal fin and stretches over the entire back. It is easy to see why they are called the Red Indian Fish - their head dress is superb!
