Also known as weevers, this large family of sand dwelling fish known commonly as Grubfish (Family Pinguipedidae) are fairly common in Sydney and are one of my favourites. Not so pretty in pictures, these guys have great expressions on their faces so I love encountering them. They have small slender fish with a long dorsal fin and perch themselves up on the sand using their ventral fins.
In Sydney the main species we see is the Spotted Grubfish (Parapercis ramsavi).
