The family of Butterflyfish (Chaetodontidae) are a family of about 120 species found in mostly tropical waters. They have round bodies, long pointed snouts and often have square backs to their bodies. Those we see in Sydney are typically stripey.
The species we see in Sydney, albeit rarely, are the Truncate Coralfish (Chelmonops Truncatus), Brown Butterflyfish (Chaetodon Kleinii) and Reef Bannerfish (Heniochus Acuminatus).
