The family Pempherididae (Bullseye) are a group of about 20 species of fish that often hide together in large schools. They are very similar to batfish and have shark like features in their dorsal fin and tail. They can often be seen hiding together in caves or large overhangs.
The species we see in Sydney quite regularly are the Common Bullseye (Pempheris Multiradiata), the Smallscale Bullseye (Pempheris compressa) and the Black Tipped Bullseye (Pempheris Affinis).
