The family Odacidae (Cales & Weed Whitings) are closely related to the Wrasse family (Labridae) except that their teeth are fused into a beak. This family is also known as rock whitings. This family are seen amongst seaweeds and seagrasses, particularly near the shore. The females are brownish in colour whereas the males are bright colours of green, blue, purple and yellow - basically all the colours of the rainbow! The most commonly sighted species is the Rainbow Cale (Odax Acroptilus) but I find it incredibly hard to photograph - if you have tips let me know!
