This is one of the best dive sites in Sydney, I think the best shore dive, because it offers so many different types of dives, with abundant marine life. You can spend an entire dive along the sponge covered walls, or the rocks and boulders, or head out on the sand, go deep or stay shallow, each option giving the opportunity to see different wildlife. Giant cuttlefish are regularly spotted here, along with sharks, rays, weedy sea dragons, eastern blue devilfish and many nudibranchs too.

This site is only possible to dive when the conditions are right because the entry and exit can be very scary.
Shark Point is a fantastic dive site but is also probably the most dangerous one in Sydney (and potentially New South Wales). I know many people, including myself, that have got into trouble at this site which is why I would only advice Advanced Open Water divers to try it, and that divers learn the area on guided dives for example through Dive Centre Bondi. Never take the sea for granted - even with hundreds of dives in this spot a freak wave or changing sea conditions can make a pleasant dive turn into a nightmare.
For more details of how to enter and exit the dive site click here. Note, as of March 2021 the rocks have moved and are making the entry EVEN more dangerous. I would highly recommend waiting for low tide before entering at the gutter. The waves are crazy over the rocks that you walk on to get to the jump location and you could hurt yourself. |
Entrance via the "gutter" lands you straight in the midst of some beautiful scenery with walls covered in sea squirts, anemones, and corals. Along the walls there are a few overhang areas where plenty of fun creatures hide inside. This site is one of the deeper shore dive options in Sydney where you can typically find yourself at 20m depth. Some photos below show the range of scenery that can be seen at this fantastic dive site.
