Red Indianfish
(Pataecus fronto)
The Red Indianfish (Pataecus fronto) is one of the most unusual fish we have in Sydney. It is named the Red Indianfish on account of its large prow which resembles that of the Native American headdress. The pieces of sponge that this fish sits next to in Sydney are often so similar to the fish itself that you can completely miss it and swim straight past!
This fish is especially unusual when it swims, as it mimics a leaf or piece of loose sponge and so it flops side to side slowly! |
