Weedy Seadragon
(Phyllopteryx Taeniolatus)
The Weedy Seadragon (Phyllopteryx Taeniolatus) is one of the most unusual and beautiful fish I think exists in the world, let alone Australia, or Sydney. It is common to see these fish in certain dive sites in Sydney year round.
The first time I saw this incredible animal was in the London Aquarium in a tiny little tank with hundreds of visitors looking at it each day. How sad compared to the life these lucky creatures live in Sydney. Wherever we see one, we often see its mate nearby and as a great example to humankind, the males have a big role in paternal care by carrying the eggs through to birth. They are an alien like, magical, beautiful, and entertaining - easily my highlight of many dives. |
