Pregnant Weedy Seadragons!

This weekend we were lucky enough to spot some heavily pregnant Weedy Seadragons in Kurnell. This particular male looks as though he has been carrying the eggs for a while so hopefully many of the babies will survive the journey that lies ahead for them.

Did you know it is the male that carries the babies until the eggs hatch? Females lay between 70 and 120 eggs and place them onto the male’s tail which he will then fertilise and carry around with him for about a month before the eggs hatch.
